Remediation and Hypertext
Remediation Penguin by Caitlin Elizabeth Mullen
Aspects of Remediation:
- creates a unique, individual experience for readers
- old media transformed into new media
- changes based on the perspective of the remediator/author
- ex: Comicbook to Movie adaptations
Hypertext
Hypertext is the bit of text that when clicked on, brings you to a new page or source of information.
- creates a new text in itself
- allows the reader to control their reading experience
- challenges the traditional idea of linear reading by encouraging readers to take nonlinear paths
- sometimes hyperlinks allow readers to get lost within pages and never return to the original text
- encourages tangible mediums
Double Content
When creating a remediation of texts, be careful not to duplicate the original text into a different medium.
Ways to remediate include:
- hyperlinks
- images
- videos
- fonts
- colors
- layouts
- sound
- headings
